125 Years of Service to Young People:
Wyman Celebrates Momentous Anniversary,
More Than 1 Million Lives Impacted

Eureka, MO – On January 25th, 2023 non-profit teen development organization Wyman will celebrate its 125th anniversary. Serving its first group of young people in 1898, before St. Louis hosted the World’s Fair and when Forest Park was still a forest, Wyman has now been part of the lives of more than 1 million people.

“Across decades of changes and challenges, Wyman has helped generations of St. Louis teens make connections, build confidence, and grow as leaders,” said Claire Wyneken, Wyman’s President & CEO. “During this time our work has evolved and expanded, but our belief in the power of teens has not changed.”

Camp Wyman was founded by local leaders, including Frank Wyman, in 1898 as a place for St. Louis youth to experience the outdoors and participate in character-building activities. Through the decades, the organization grew and became nationally recognized for expertise in teen development. Wyman’s innovative, proven programs are now offered annually to more than 29,000 youth, in St. Louis and across the country. Camp Wyman remains a place where more than 5,000 people each year step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and build new skills.

“As we celebrate this anniversary, we hope to share our history with those who have been part of Wyman over the years,” Wyneken said. “We invite everyone to view our online archive of photos, going back to Wyman’s founding and continuing through teens active in our programs today, and to share your Wyman story at Wyman125.org.”
