13.5 million young people live in under-resourced environments across the US, so it’s not surprising that our country’s leaders, teachers and community members are searching for solutions that will help young people overcome these challenges.
Our Approach and Programs
Where Teen and Community Potential Emerge
Wyman has deployed some of the nation’s most successful evidenced-based solutions to help teens transform their destinies and their communities.
Empower Teens: Strong, quality programs ensure teens have the tools and skills needed to succeed.
Equip Adults: Caring, responsive and knowledgeable adults build relationships with youth by creating engaging and empowering learning environments.
Strengthen Systems: Well-researched systems-solutions create equitable and transformative opportunities for teens.
Teen Outreach Program (TOP)
Deployed nationally, TOP empowers teens from 6th through 12th grade with the tools and opportunities needed to avoid risky behaviors, and build a foundation of healthy behaviors, life skills and a sense of purpose.
Skills are developed through a unique combination of engaging curriculum, which is guided by trained adult facilitators within safe and supportive youth environments.
Curriculum is complemented by community service opportunities that provide teens with the opportunities to hone the social emotional skills they learn.
TOP can stand alone or be embedded into other programs and can be offered in-school, after-school, or through community-based organizations.
Based in St. Louis, TLP boosts college tenacity through immersive leadership experiences, college access and persistence support that lasts for six years, from teens’ 9th grade through sophomore year in college.
At Wyman, we believe we will impact more teens by increasing our ability to continuously learn and create value from the best practices we capture from our own programs—and those across the nation.
Wyman’s Research and Learning Department increases youth development effectiveness and impact by capturing and analyzing data, then disseminating best practices that can launch programmatic innovations across the field.
Those in the Midwest know Wyman for our historic roots, and affectionately refer to us as “Camp Wyman” for the camp experiences we began offering to children as early as 1898. Since that time, historic “Camp Wyman” has served the community in a variety of ways as a valuable local service in the area.
High ropes courses, climbing walls, challenge courses, zip lines and more encourage teams to build stronger bonds and individuals to step outside of their comfort zones—all within a pristine wilderness setting just a few minutes outside of St. Louis.
For those interested in hosting an event, our 250-acre campus offers venue rentals such as open-air pavilions and meeting spaces, complemented by full-service dining, trails, lakes and cabins.
